DU Admissions: vocational courses preferred
On the reason for the recent growth in the number of students
opting for vocational and professional courses the aspirants say that
these courses are degree courses which permits one to continue further
studies and, at the same time, it also prepares to take up various competitive
examinations.
Founder and President of Rai Foundation Vinay Rai points out that "students now give top priority to job oriented courses. It has also been found out that a large percentage of students give up seats in courses like B.Com and Economics (Hons.) to join vocational courses like sales promotion and industrial relations because of their inclination, interests and job-oriented mindsets". There are many colleges and institutes which provide such courses and caters to the intellectual needs of the student community. There are courses like tourism, book- publishing, office management and secretarial practice, retailing, trade, store- management personnel Management and entrepreneurship. One of the many reasons students give for choosing these courses is that they ensure a job right after the completion unlike the plain graduation and also because they have a market value. |
