Relevantly skill-sets for our students: Greater dialogue between leaders of Business and Academia
Addressing a select gathering of business leaders at the Rai Foundation Delhi campus, Prof. Vinay Rai urged on the importance of greater interaction between the industry and academia to address the issue of escalating graduate unemployability, owing to lack of relevant skill-sets (that are not being being delivered by the traditional higher education system, even in face of the new and pressing new demands of globalization and internationalism). He cited a recent TOI report which states that "out of the 9.28 million students in higher education, only 17 percent are pursuing professional streams while the remaining 83 percent are in conventional higher education streams, i.e B.Sc, B.Com and BA degree programs." To correct this imbalance afflicting business and academia, says Vinay Rai, not only do we need to restructure our curricula, train our teachers, and incarease infrastructure support, but also need to bring in dynamic business leaders and corporate work-ethics in the field of education. The work-culture in our schools and colleges needs to become more dynamic, making each and every team member a partner in change and action. Citing the examples of IT giants Infosys , Wipro , TCS , HCL  , Satyam , Vinay Rai said that the successes shown by the leaders and teams in these world-class organisations could be replicated in the education sector as well, if only the education-establishement were to be less loathe to change, and more responsive to new and alternative ways of approaching university education.
